then - Nov. 20043 years ago today Jeff and I arrived back at the Miami airport after a whirlwind trip to Haiti with 2 little Haitian beauties and our life as parents began.
We found out the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (2004) that we had to be in Haiti for a visa appointment on Friday. Jeff was out on a trip and due back Wednesday. I had the car packed and when he got home we drove to Miami, FL and flew out on Thanksgiving day. Jeff had never met the kids, I had spent a week with them in August. He met them on Thanksgiving day. Ben went right to him and was thrilled to have a dad. Makayala took a while to warm up to him. She was such a quiet, reserved little thing. I know, I know, some of you are now asking - "did you bring the right little girl home??!!" She is no longer that quiet, reserved little girl! Anyway, we spent Thanksgiving in the hotel eating plain spagetti noodles and rice and beans. What an awesome Thanksgiving it was though! Our first as a family of 4.
Our visa appointment was Friday and went smoothly. We flew back to Miami Nov. 27, 2004. We had left a family of 2, we returned a family of 4. Sometimes it is so hard to believe that they have only been with us 3 years. They are great kids and I am so blessed to be their mom.
On another note - we just got back from a trip to Ohio - I went on a cruise with my mom and we spent Thanksgiving with our families - more on that later.
